White, non-Hispanic males are the most likely to commit suicide and the most likely to use a firearm to do it. They account for nearly 63% of all suicides and 80% of suicides by firearm.
Among males of other racial and ethnic groups and all females, firearms are involved in about 38% of suicides. White and black non-Hispanic females and use a gun in about a third of suicides while Hispanic females use a gun in slightly more than 21%.
